Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival to Asuncion | Meeting with a guide/ornithologist. Presentation of the program.

 

Day 2 Asuncion/Loma Plata (Chaco) 500 Km | Sunrise catches up with us heading towards the Chaco. The palm savannahs of the Lower Chaco offer a great variety of aquatic birds, as well as the transition between the Humid Chaco and the Dry Chaco. Optional: visit to an indigenous community. Stops along the way for birdwatching. In Loma Plata – Menonnite Colonies, transfer to the hotel. Dinner (B-L-D).

 

Day 3 Estancia Maria | Birdwatching inside the private reserve of Estancia Maria (Maria Farm), with more than 10.000 hectares (60% of Chacoan birds identified in this place). Full day for birdwatching, breakfast and lunch. Return to the hotel by sunset. Equipped with reflectors we will look for bird species and mammals of nocturnal habits. Dinner at the hotel. (B-L-D).

 

Day 4 Laguna Capitan | In search of the large variety of birds of the Upper Chaco (more than 422 species) and its fabulous mammals, we arrive at the Reserve of Laguna Capitan (Captain Lagoon), site of lagoons of sweet and salty waters. Birdwatching all day. Breakfast and lunch (lunch box). Transfer to the hotel in Loma Plata. Dinner at the hotel. (B-L-D).

 

Day 5 Chaco / Chacoan Farm | We leave from the Lower Chaco, where we will appreciate the floodable palm savannahs and the great variety of birds that inhabit them. Lodging at a rural establishment with basic installations. Birdwatching during the afternoon. Dinner (B-L-D).

 

Day 6 Chacoan Farm | Birdawatching from early in the morning until nightfall. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the farm. (B-L-D).

 

Day 7 Estancia/Asunción | Breakfast at the farm and transfer to Asuncion. Visit to the Bay of Asuncion (area IBA - Important Bird Área). Lodging (B) and rest of the day free.

 

Day 8 Asuncion | Breakfast, and transfer to the airport.
